Back to School Reset: Why Kids Need Time Outside

Back to school season brings a lot of changes for children. New classrooms, new teachers, homework, early mornings, after school activities, and hours spent concentrating and following a schedule.

Even when kids are excited to be back at school, adjusting to a new routine can be a lot.

Sometimes, after a long school week, what they need most isn’t another structured activity. They just need a chance to get outside, move, explore, and be kids.

Trade Screens and Schedules for Fresh Air

At WaffleFamily Farm, we believe some of the best childhood moments happen outside.

A farm visit gives children a completely different environment from the classroom. Instead of sitting at a desk, they can walk through the grass, explore under the trees, meet animals, play, get their hands a little dirty, and experience the world around them.

There is no test to pass and no activity they have to complete.

They can simply explore at their own pace.

After a week filled with school schedules and screens, that slower kind of afternoon or weekend can feel like a reset for the whole family.

Animals Have a Way of Slowing Everything Down

There is something wonderfully simple about spending time around animals.

Watching a cow quietly graze, saying hello to a curious goat, seeing sheep wander through the pasture, or stopping to watch rabbits can naturally encourage children to slow down and pay attention to what’s happening right in front of them.

At WaffleFamily Farm, families can meet our goats, sheep, mini cow and other farm animals while spending time together outdoors.

And sometimes the moments children remember most aren’t the elaborate ones.

It’s the goat that followed them around.

The cow they couldn’t stop talking about.

The dirt on their shoes.

Or the afternoon when nobody was in a hurry to go anywhere.

Let Kids Be Kids Again

Our mission at WaffleFamily Farm has always been bigger than simply creating another place to visit.

We want to bring back a little of the childhood many of us remember.

A childhood with muddy shoes, fresh air, animals, trees, imagination, and outdoor adventures.

Children today spend so much of their lives moving between school, activities, schedules, technology, and screens. We wanted to create a place where families could step away from some of that for a few hours.

No complicated agenda required.

Come outside. Meet the animals. Explore. Play. Laugh. Get a little dirty.
